3.2.2.4.(3)
OS1OP1
ObjectiveOP1 Fire Protection of the Building or Facility
Attribution
Application
Application 1:
Height, width and aggregate area of indoor storage of combustible pallets that are stored in conformance with NFPA 13, “Installation of Sprinkler Systems,” in sprinklered buildings.
This applies to buildings or parts of buildings used for the short- or long-term indoor storage of the following products, whether raw or waste materials, goods in process, or finished goods:
Exceptions:
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 3.1.1.4.(1), which applies to:
    • the storage and dispensing of Class 2.1 flammable gases at fuel-dispensing stations, and
    • facilities operated by manufacturers or distributors [handling or storing more than 1 500 kg, as stated in Appendix Note A-3.1.1.4.(1)(a)] of Class 2 gases, and
  • Sentence 3.2.1.1.(2), which applies to high rack storage warehouses with storage heights greater than 13 m.

Intent
Intent 1:
To supersede the requirements of Sentence 3.2.2.4.(1), which would otherwise require that combustible pallets be stored outdoors, and permit them to be stored indoors without the limitations on size stated in Sentence 3.2.2.4.(2), if pile storage conforms to NFPA 13.
This is to limit the probability that a sprinkler system will not suppress or control a fire involving the stored products, which could lead to the spread of fire to other parts of the building, which could lead to damage to the building.
