Application 1: 
Identification and subsequent removal of tanks, piping and machinery reservoirs containing combustible liquids or flammable liquids, or that are likely to contain flammable vapours, and that have been drained and purged, in buildings or parts of buildings undergoing demolition, including any incomplete or abandoned buildings, where removal of the equipment prior to demolition is impracticable.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 5.6.1.1.(2), which applies to construction or demolition activities involving buildings that:
  • do not pose an exposure hazard to other buildings, or
  • pose a minimal fire hazard to occupants.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To supersede the requirement in Sentence 5.6.1.13.(1), where it is impracticable to remove drained and purged equipment prior to demolition, but only if measures are taken to:
  • limit the probability of damage to the equipment during demolition operations [identification], and
  • eliminate the vapour ignition hazard as soon as possible [removal].
