Intent 1:
To supersede the requirements of Sentences 3.2.4.1.(4), and 3.2.4.2.(2) and (3), and permit a fire alarm system in [only] a portion of a building,
if certain conditions are met.
These conditions
are to limit the probability that:
- excessive travel distances will occur, which could lead
to delays in evacuation or moving to a safe place, which could lead
to harm to persons,
- the separations between the portions of the building
will have insufficient fire resistance, which could lead to the spread
of fire from one portion of the building to another portion of the
building, which could lead to harm to persons in the other portion
of the building, and
- fire and products of combustion will spread from one
portion of the building to another portion of the building through
openings in the separation between building portions, which could
lead to harm to persons in the other portion of the building.
