Intent 1:

To limit the probability that the live load due to use and occupancy for corridors, lobbies and aisles not more than 1200 mm wide, all corridors above the first storey of residential areas of apartments, hotels and motels, and interior balconies and mezzanines, that cannot be used by an assembly of people as a viewing area, will be less than the accepted minimum value, which could lead to:

• excessive deformation of, or excessive stress in, structural components, which could lead to damage to the building, and
• excessive deflection or excessive vibration of structural members, which could impede the intended use and occupancy of the building.
