Intent 1:
To limit the probability that the building will
not have a clearly defined Seismic Force Resisting System, which could
lead to:
- insufficient strength to transfer loads to the ground,
and
- insufficient stiffness to maintain lateral deformation
within acceptable limits.
This is to limit the probability of:
- the excessive deformation of, or excessive stress in,
the structural elements, which could lead to damage to the building,
or
- the excessive deformation of, or excessive stress in,
the building structure, which could lead to damage to the building,
which could impede the intended use and occupancy of the building.
