Intent 1:

To limit the probability that the design of the Seismic Force Resisting System of the building will not take into account the expected lateral deflection and distortion of the building structure due to maximum expected seismic ground motions, which could lead to the excessive deformation of the building structure, which could lead to:

• damage to the building, or
• damage to the building, which could impede the intended use and occupancy of the building.
