To exempt some configurations of exterior exit passageways from the application of Sentences 9.9.4.2.(1) and 9.9.4.2.(2), which would otherwise require the passageway to be separated from floors areas by a fire separation or smoke-tight barrier, on the basis that it is not expected that smoke will accumulate in the passageway and exits are available at each end of the passageway.
