Intent 1:
To exempt certain glazing installations from the
requirements of Sentence 4.1.8.18.(14), if the following conditions
are met:
- the building is located in areas where the spectral
response acceleration amplified for site conditions equals the floor
levels found in low seismicity regions with Site Class C (i.e. very
dense soil and soft rock).
- the glass is sufficiently clear from its frame so it
will not contact its frame and shatter
- any failure of the glass will be in relatively small
chunks over areas that are unlikely to have people below in buildings
not considered critical at the occasion of a disaster, or
- the glass has sufficient strength so that it will not
shatter.
