Sentence 4.3.13.11.(2)

Intent 1:

To permit suspended tanks to be used if the supports offer an equivalent level of safety [as conventional supports for tanks located on floors or the ground] by meeting all the performance objectives stated in Subsection 4.3.3.

This is to limit the probability of:

• excessive movement of the tank,
• premature corrosion of the tank,
• failure of the supports caused by fire exposure, and
• structural failure of the supports caused by tank loading.

This is to limit the probability of the failure of the tank and associated piping, which could lead to the escape of liquid, which could lead to the ignition of vapour from a nearby ignition source, which could lead to harm to persons.
