Application
Application 1: 
Upper portions of firewalls with a minimum fire-resistance rating of 2 h that separate upper storeys of a building or buildings within which the floor areas contain other than Group E or Group F, Division 1 or 2 major occupancies but having lower storeys that contain floor areas with Group E or Group F, Division 1 or 2 major occupancies.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A, and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) for application of Part 9] as stated in Sentence 9.10.11.3.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To exempt certain upper portions of firewalls from the requirement to have a higher fire-resistance rating, on the basis that these upper portions of firewalls have the necessary fire-resistance rating for maintaining an appropriate level of safety.
