Application
Application 1: 
Extension of a firewall from the ground continuously through, or adjacent to, all storeys of a building or buildings so separated.
Exceptions: 
except:
  • for a firewall located above a basement storage garage conforming to Article 3.2.1.2. and commencing at the floor assembly immediately above the storage garage, and
  • as provided in Sentence 3.1.10.1.(3), which allows a firewall to be supported on a structural frame.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A, and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] as stated in Sentence 9.10.11.3.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability of a firewall not being continuous, which could lead to gaps or openings in the firewall during a fire, which could lead to the spread of fire from the building to an adjacent building, which could lead to damage to the adjacent building.
