Application 1: 
Combustible projections on the exterior of one building, including balconies, platforms, canopies, eaves projections and stairs, that extend outward beyond the end of the firewall, and are within 2.4 m of combustible projections and window or door openings of the adjacent building.
This applies to buildings that are separated by a firewall:
  • as described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A, and
  • to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] as stated in Sentence 9.10.11.3.(1).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that combustible material from one building will be in close proximity to combustible material from another building on the other side of the firewall, which could lead to the spread of fire from one building to another, which could lead to harm to persons in the building not originally involved in the fire.
