Objective	OP1 Fire Protection of the Building
Attribution	(b),(d) [F04-OP1.3]
Application	Application 1: Fire-resistance rating of combustible mezzanines and of their supporting loadbearing walls, columns and arches in a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group F, Division 3 major occupancy. This applies in buildings that: are not more than 4 storeys in building height, and have a building area not more than the value in Table 3.2.2.76. This applies to buildings to which Part 3 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 3]. Exceptions: except: a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group F, Division 3 major occupancy but the building complies with the conditions of Articles 3.2.2.77., 3.2.2.78., 3.2.2.79., 3.2.2.80., 3.2.2.81., 3.2.2.82. or 3.2.2.83., a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group F, Division 3 major occupancy but in addition has more than 10% of the area classified as a major occupancy that has more stringent requirements in accordance with Articles 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.75. and 3.2.2.77. to 3.2.2.83., a storey in which more than 10% of the area is classified as a Group F, Division 3 major occupancy but also has a portion of its floor area used for a Group F, Division 1 or 2 occupancy, and as provided in Sentence 3.2.1.6.(1), which requires a mezzanine that is considered as a storey in determining building height to be constructed in accordance with the fire separation requirements for floor assemblies.

Intent	Intent 1: To limit the probability that loadbearing walls, columns and arches exposed to fire will prematurely fail or collapse, which could lead to the failure or collapse of a supported combustible mezzanine during the time required to achieve occupant safety and for emergency responders to perform their duties, which could lead to damage to the building. Intent 2: To limit the probability that a combustible mezzanine exposed to fire will prematurely fail or collapse during the time required to achieve occupant safety and for emergency responders to perform their duties, which could lead to damage to the building.
