Objective | OP3 Protection of Adjacent Buildings from Fire |
Attribution | |
Application | Application 1: Fire-resistance rating of
an exposing building face of noncombustible
construction of a building of low
hazard industrial occupancy conforming to Article 3.2.2.82.,
where the exposing building face is not a loadbearing wall. This applies
to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.

Intent | Intent 1: To exempt certain exposing building faces from the requirements
of Sentences 3.2.3.1.(1) and 3.2.3.7.(1), (2) and (3), which would otherwise require a fire-resistance rating, on
the basis that the building has a low fire load, the exposing building face
is of noncombustible construction and is not a loadbearing wall. These conditions
are to limit the probability that the exposing building face will prematurely
fail in a fire situation, which could lead to the collapse of the loadbearing
exterior wall, which could lead to the spread of fire from the building to
an adjacent building, which could lead to damage to adjacent buildings.
