Objective	OP3 Protection of Adjacent Buildings from Fire

Application	Application 1: Minimum distance separating unprotected openings in two fire compartments, where: unprotected openings in an exterior wall of the one fire compartment are exposed to unprotected openings in the exterior wall of the other fire compartment, and the planes of the two walls [of the fire compartments] are parallel or at an angle of less than 135°, measured from the exterior of the building. This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A where: as stated in the latter part of Sentence 3.2.3.14.(3), unprotected openings of fire compartments are on opposite sides of a firewall, and external walls of two buildings meet at a firewall at an angle of less than 135°, as stated in Sentence 3.1.10.6.(1), which also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.11.3.(1).

Intent	Intent 1: To limit the probability of the spread of fire from one fire compartment to a fire compartment in an adjacent building through unprotected openings in the exterior wall of the fire compartment of origin, which could lead to damage to adjacent buildings.
