Objective	OS1 Fire Safety

Application	Application 1: Minimum fire-resistance rating of the exterior wall of each fire compartment referred to in Sentence 3.2.3.14.(1) within the distance, D_o, where: unprotected openings in an exterior wall of the one fire compartment are exposed to unprotected openings in the exterior wall of the other fire compartment, and the planes of the two walls [of the fire compartments] are parallel or at an angle of less than 135°, measured from the exterior of the building. This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A. Application 2: This also applies: as stated in the latter part of Sentence 3.2.3.14.(3), to: unprotected openings of fire compartments on opposite sides of a firewall, and exposure from unprotected openings of fire compartments that are not protected by an automatic sprinkler system, and to external walls of two buildings that meet at a firewall at an angle of less than 135°, as stated in Sentence 3.1.10.6.(1), which also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.11.3.(1).

Intent	Intent 1: To limit the probability that fire compartment exterior walls will have insufficient fire resistance, which could lead to the spread of fire from one fire compartment to an adjacent fire compartment through exterior walls, which could lead to harm to persons in the adjacent fire compartment.
