Application | Application 1: Use of exits for purposes
other than for exiting. This applies to exits serving floor areas that are intended for occupancy,
including mezzanines as stated in Sentence 3.4.2.2.(1),
in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Application 2: This also applies to tents and air-supported
structures, as stated in Sentences 3.1.6.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(1). |

Intent | Intent 1: To limit the probability that the use of exits other than
for exiting will lead to exits being obstructed or not readily available in
a fire situation, which could lead to emergency responders being delayed in
gaining access to floor areas, which could lead to emergency response operations
being delayed or ineffective, which could lead to the spread of fire, which
could lead to damage to the building. Intent 2: To waive the prohibition in the first part of Sentence 3.4.4.4.(6) on
the use of exits for other purposes, and to allow access to floor areas, on
the basis that this use:
