Application 1: 
Minimum distance between fuel-fired appliances and:
  • property lines, and
  • adjacent walls of a building, where the wall of the building contains any opening within 3 storeys above and 5 m horizontally from the appliance, except when every opening within these limits is protected by:
    • a closure having a fire-protection rating of not less than 45 min determined in accordance with Article 3.1.8.4., or
    • a wired glass assembly permitted for use in a vertical fire separation and described in Appendix D.
This applies to fuel-fired appliances installed on the roof of a building or in another location outside the building, for buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1).
Application 2: 
This also applies to fuel-fired appliances on the roof of buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.1.2.(9).

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that a fire involving fuel-fired appliances outside a building will spread into the building through unprotected wall openings, which could lead to harm to persons inside the building.
Intent 2: 
To limit the probability that a fire involving fuel-fired appliances outside a building will spread to an adjacent building, which could lead to harm to persons in the adjacent building.
Intent 3: 
To make Appendix D [specifically D-2.3.14.] applicable with respect to wired glass assemblies.
