Application
Application 1: 
Location, with respect to an exit, of rooms and compartments where intake openings for linen chutes and refuse chutes are located, in buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1).
Application 2: 
This also applies to chutes and shafts in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentence 9.10.1.2.(7), except where the chute or shaft is entirely contained within a dwelling unit.

Intent
Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that a fire involving the room or compartment will spread into an exit, which could lead to emergency responders being delayed or ineffective in carrying out their emergency response operations, which could lead to the spread of fire to other parts of the building, which could lead to damage to the building.
