Application
Application 1: 
Assistive listening systems in seating areas of all classrooms, auditoria, meeting rooms and theatres with an area of more than 100 m2.
This applies to all buildings of assembly occupancy, as described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A.
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Sentence 3.8.1.1.(1), which applies to:
  • houses, including semi-detached houses, duplexes, triplexes, town houses, row houses and boarding houses,
  • buildings of Group F, Division 1 major occupancy, and
  • buildings that are not intended to be occupied on a daily or full-time basis, including automatic telephone exchanges, pumphouses and substations.
Application 2: 
This also applies to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], as stated in Sentences 9.5.2.1.(1) and 9.10.1.2.(2).
Exceptions: 
except as stated in Article 9.5.2.3., which applies to apartment buildings.

Intent 1: 
To limit the probability that a person with a hearing disability will be unable to properly hear fire alarm signals or emergency messages, which could lead to delays in evacuating or moving to a safe place, which could lead to harm to persons.
