Application | Application 1: Protection of the exterior surface of foamed plastic
insulation used in exterior walls of buildings described
in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A that:
Exceptions:
except as exempted in Sentence 3.2.3.8.(3), which applies
to wall assemblies that comply with the requirements of Article 3.1.5.5.
Application 2: This also applies to exterior walls enclosing an attic or roof space located above an exposing
building face, as stated in Sentence 3.2.3.3.(1).

Intent | Intent 1: To limit the probability that, in the event of a fire, the
foamed plastic insulation will be ignited, which could lead to the involvement
of the foamed plastic insulation, which could lead to increased radiation
to an exposed adjacent building, which could lead to the spread of fire to
the adjacent building during the time required for emergency responders to
perform their duties, which could lead to damage to the adjacent building.
