Application | Application 1: Protection of the exterior surface of foamed plastic
insulation used in exterior walls of buildings described
in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A that:
Exceptions:
except as exempted in Sentence 3.2.3.8.(3), which applies
to wall assemblies that comply with the requirements of Article 3.1.5.5.
Application 2: This also applies to exterior walls enclosing an attic or roof space located above an exposing
building face, as stated in Sentence 3.2.3.3.(1).

Intent | Intent 1: To limit the probability that, in the event of a fire, the
foamed plastic insulation will be ignited and contribute to the spread of
fire along the surface of an exterior wall, which could lead to the upward
spread of fire from one storey to another during the time required to achieve
occupant safety and for emergency responders to perform their duties, which
could lead to harm to persons Intent 2: To limit the probability that the protective material will
not remain in place in a fire situation, which could lead to the ignition
of foamed plastic insulation and the spread of fire along the surface of an
exterior wall, which could lead to the upward spread of fire from one storey
to another during the time required to achieve occupant safety and for emergency
responders to perform their duties, which could lead to harm to persons.
