Application
Application 1:
Reduction of uniformly distributed live loads specified in Table 4.1.5.3.:
  • for churches, courtrooms, lecture halls and theatres containing fixed seats with backs over at least 80% of the assembly area,
  • for classrooms, and
  • for roofs designed for the minimum loading stated in Table 4.1.5.3.
This applies to buildings described in Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A and to buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] that are required to be designed in accordance with the requirements of Part 4.

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that the uniformly distributed live load for churches, courtrooms, lecture halls and theatres with fixed seats, for classrooms, where people are typically distributed uniformly over the floor area, and for roof areas that are designed for the minimum 1.0 kPa loading stated in Table 4.1.5.3., will be reduced where there is an increase in the tributary area of floor or roof, which could lead to structural failure, which could lead to harm to persons.
