5.10.1.1.(1)
OH1OS2OS3OH4OS1
ObjectiveOH4 Vibration and Deflection Limitation
Attribution
[F80,F61,F63-OH4] Applies to floor assemblies.
Application
Application 1:
Performance criteria and installation methods for materials, components and their connections, for which a standard is listed in Table 5.10.1.1.
This applies to building materials, components, assemblies and their interfaces described in Sentence 5.1.2.1.(1) that are installed in buildings to which Part 5 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.2.(1) of Division A for application of Part 5].
Application 2:
This also applies to cladding assemblies installed on buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9] where:
  • the cladding assembly is not addressed in Section 9.27., or
  • the cladding assembly does not comply with the prescriptive requirements of Section 9.27.
Application 3:
This also applies to the position of low air and vapour permeance materials within the building assembly relative to the position of materials providing thermal resistance in the assemblies of buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], where the building assembly:
  • incorporates low permeance materials that act as other than cladding or that are installed on the warm side of the assembly, and
  • is more susceptible to condensation [see Sentences 9.25.1.2.(4) and (5) for combinations of interior and exterior environmental conditions that create a higher risk for condensation].
Application 4:
This also applies to the design of vapour barriers in buildings to which Part 9 applies [see Sentence 1.3.3.3.(1) of Division A for application of Part 9], where the building assembly is more susceptible to condensation [see Sentences 9.25.4.2.(2) and (3) for combinations of interior and exterior environmental conditions that create a higher risk for condensation].
Exceptions:
except as stated in:
  • Sentence 5.10.1.1.(2), which applies where the requirements of the standard pertain to the flame-spread properties of materials and components,
  • Sentence 5.10.1.1.(3), which exempts wired glass assemblies (windows) installed in a required fire separation from the application of CAN/CSA-A440, “Windows,” and CAN/CSA-440.1, “User Selection Guide to CSA Standard CAN/CSA-A440-00, Windows,” and
  • Sentence 5.10.1.1.(4), which applies to skylights not covered in the scope of CAN/CGSB-63.14-M, “Plastic Skylights.”

Intent
Intent 1:
To limit the probability that the performance of materials and components and their installation will fall significantly below expectations, with respect to their resistance to premature deterioration and damage of moisture-suspectible materials and components.
For floor assemblies, this is to limit the probability of excessive movement, deflection or vibration, which could lead to negative effects on the psychological well-being of persons.
