To exempt openings in certain rated fire separations from the application of Sentence 3.2.1.2.(1), which would otherwise require rated closures, if certain measures are taken.
These measures are to limit the probability of the spread of fire from the garage to the upper portions of the building, which could lead to damage to the building.
