To limit the probability that moisture will penetrate linen chutes or refuse chutes, which could lead to moisture in the linen or refuse, which could lead to bacteria growth or foul odours, which could lead to unsanitary conditions, which could lead to harm to persons.

Intent 2:

To limit the probability that linen or refuse will become lodged in the chute, which could lead to bacteria growth, insect infestation or foul odours, which could lead to unsanitary conditions, which could lead to harm to persons.

Intent 3:

To limit the probability that linen chutes or refuse chutes will excessively corrode or deteriorate, which could lead to their premature structural failure, which could lead to linen or refuse being lodged in the chute or falling out of the chute, which could lead to bacteria growth, insect infestation or foul odours, which could lead to unsanitary conditions, which could lead to harm to persons.
