Intent 1:

To limit the probability that the design of the connection between adjacent structures will not take into account the factors affecting the performance of the connection during earthquake, which could lead to structural failure of the connection, which could lead to the impact of adjacent structures, which could lead to:

• structural failure, or
• severe damage to non-structural elements, which could lead to their consequently falling.

This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
