Intent 1:

To limit the probability that inappropriate materials or design, faulty construction or poor installation practices will lead to:

• the structural failure of chimneys, or
• water ingress, which could lead to the corrosion or rotting of structural building elements.

This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
