Intent 1:
To limit the probability of:
- an inadequate resistance to withdrawal from the substrate,
- an inadequate contact area between the staple's crown
and the shingle's surface, which could lead to excessive stressing
of the staple/shingle interface, which could lead to pull-through
failure, or
- an inadequate resistance to corrosion on exposure to
water from rain, or melting snow or ice, or to chemicals (introduced
or naturally occurring).
This is to limit the probability of
the displacement of shingles, which could lead to precipitation or
meltwater ingress, which could lead to deterioration, which could
lead to the structural failure of roofs or assemblies protected by
roofs, which could lead to harm to persons.
