To limit the probability of an inadequately sized
standing surface at doors opening towards stairs, which could lead
to users stepping back onto the stairs when opening the door and:
falling, or
falling in an emergency, which could lead to delays
in the evacuation or movement of persons to a safe place.
This is to limit the probability of
harm to persons.
