Application | Application 1: Flashing for horizontal joints in cladding, and where
cladding substrates change and the substrates differ sufficiently for stresses
to be concentrated along the horizontal line of change, in cladding assemblies
to which Subsection 9.27.3. applies [see Article 9.27.1.1. for
application of Subsection 9.27.3.], and:

Intent | Intent 1: To limit the probability of precipitation or meltwater ingress
at horizontal joints between cladding elements. This is
to limit the probability of deterioration, which could lead to compromised
structural integrity of exterior walls or elements protected by exterior walls,
which could lead to harm to persons.
