To limit the probability that friction due to gravity
loads will be considered to provide resistance to seismic forces,
which could lead to rocking and twisting of the component about its
vertical axis, which could lead to:
- components of the building falling or sliding, which
could lead to damage to the building, or
- damage to and functional failure of a component's system,
which could impede the intended use and occupancy of the building.
