Sentence 3.1.3.1.(3)

Intent 1:

To exclude from the fire separation requirements of Sentence 3.1.3.1.(1), the plane surrounding an open space between storeys if certain design conditions are met and measures are taken [as described in Articles 3.2.8.2. to 3.2.8.8.] to:

• provide adequate evacuation times,
• control fuel load and fire spread, and
• provide tenable conditions along exit routes and during evacuation and emergency response operations.

This is to limit the probability of harm to persons during a building fire.
