To exclude from the fire separation requirements of Sentence 3.1.3.1.(1), the plane surrounding an open space between storeys if certain design conditions are met and measures are taken [as described in Articles 3.2.8.2. to 3.2.8.8.] to control fuel load and fire spread. This is to limit the probability of damage to the building.
