Intent 1:

To limit the probability that the design of the building and the connection between adjacent structures will not take into account the interaction of adjacent structural systems during earthquake, which could lead to structural failure of the connection, which could lead to the impact of adjacent structures, which could lead to:

• structural failure, or
• severe damage to non-structural elements, which could lead to their subsequently falling.

This is to limit the probability of harm to persons.
